To the Recreation Commissioners and Jenny Wallace, Executive Director:
The Burwood Parents, in an effort to make the pool and park more enjoyable
for the community, and the people that work and volunteer there; suggest and
request the following list of items:
Pool hours: 11am to 5pm Monday through Thursday.
Fridays and the last day that the pool is open
11am to 8pm.
With the hours being 12-4pm, the children lose about an hour with lunch
served, (from the lunch truck), at noon. That leaves only about 3 hours to
swim. Less than that with the hourly required pool checks.
1.) Access to water:
A plastic stationary tub in the craft room. One with a faucet that you
can hook a hose up to. This would make keeping the craft room clean so much
easier. Plus, we can do a much better job of watering flowers to make the park
pretty and colorful for newcomers and renters of the park on weekends.
2.) The baby pool wouldn't fill last year.
If this problem hasn't already been fixed, we need that taken care of.
3.) The latch on the baby pool gate has still not been replaced. It looks
like a big metal spear-head. Small children get hurt on it every year. We need
a safer latch on that gate.
4.) Chains and locks on Chairs:
We so appreciate the new pool chairs. They are nice looking and very
durable. We would like to see them chained to the
pool fence throughout the
summer season. The chairs are much too heavy to carry back and forth
every day. The children always want to help carry and sometimes they end up
getting hurt.
5.) Pool and Park Rules sign:
We would like to see a large "Rules" sigh placed between the bathroom
doors on the craft building. We would like the rule to include that shoes
should be worn when not in the pool area. We had some cut
little feet last year on
broken glass in the park.
6.) Craft table and stationary shelving in craft room:
We would like some shelves attached to the wall in the craft room to hold
materials. Loose shelves can fall over on children. We really need a "lunch
room" type craft table. That way the children have a smooth surface to craft
and play on.
7.) Garbage cans on wheels:
Those large blue cans that are in the park now, hold at least four 30
gallon bags of garbage each. They are almost impossible for anyone but
"HE-MAN" to left and take up the driveway to the curb. We really need to say
good-bye to them. Cans on wheels are much easier to move.
8.) New Soda Machine:
There was a problem last year with the soda machine. It didn't work.
The guys came in the, Pepsi or Coke, truck last year to try and fix it. But they
didn't have a key to the machine. Anyway, we would like a new one.
The Burwood Parents are planning on doing many of the same things that we did
last year. All of the activities created great buzz for the park/pool and were
enjoyed by all. We are looking forward to another great year at Burwood Pool
and Park.
We will see you at the meeting on Wednesday the 18th.
Thank you.
Sincerely
Robin Mace
